June was a busy and exciting month for the Friends of the Delaware County District Library! From connecting with families in the community to supporting our Library through various fundraising events, we had plenty to celebrate. Let's showcase two fun summer events!
One of the highlights of the month was participating in the Powell Lolli-Pops! Concerts. Our booth was a wonderful opportunity to meet families, share information about the Friends, and hand out free books to children. It was a joy to see so many young readers leave with a new book to enjoy while helping spread the word about DCDL and the Friends' mission. These concerts continue in July and August, so it’s not too late to stop by and enjoy!
On June 25, we welcomed bestselling author Laura Kamoie for a memorable evening celebrating her historical novel A Founding Mother. Drawing on her extensive expertise as a historical fiction author and former professor of Early American History at the U.S. Naval Academy, Laura captivated attendees with a fascinating presentation that transported everyone back to the founding years of our nation through the life and legacy of Abigail Adams.
The evening was made even more special by a beautiful garden party at the picturesque Dempsey Event Center. Guests enjoyed a menu inspired by the refreshments Abigail Adams herself might have served, including the evening's signature beverage, Abigail's Punch. Laura also delighted attendees with a surprise gift basket filled with A Founding Mother treasures, which was raffled off during the event, while several lucky guests took home the stunning book-themed centerpieces. It was truly a perfect evening of history, literature, and community, and we are grateful to everyone who joined us.
As we head into the heart of summer, we're looking forward to more opportunities to support the Delaware County District Library, encourage a love of reading, and connect with our neighbors. We hope to see you at an upcoming event!
