Delaware Veterans Parade: A Celebration of Valor

Volunteers/Parade Walkers Needed!

Sign-up to support DCDL & the Friends at the Delaware Veterans Parade! The Parade is scheduled Sunday, November 1st at 3 p.m.

The Delaware Veterans Parade is more than just an annual event; it's a hearfelt tribute to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation. 

Each year, Delaware gathers as a community to show its profound appreciation, ensuring that the stories of our heroes are not just remembered but celebrated.

This year FOL volunteers can choose between two Delaware Veterans Parade volunteer opportunities:

Join the pre-parade celebration at the Delaware County Fairgrounds by staffing a DCDL & FOL information table. This volunteer opportunity goes from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Or join DCDL staffers as Parade Walkers, who are asked to walk along with the Delaware County District Library vehicle that will be participating in the parade.

The parade route begins at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, with the parade  traveling through the heart of Downtown Delaware. Parade Walkers should arrive at the County Fairgrounds at 2:30 p.m. Parade step-off is at 3 p.m.

First Friday Event -- DCDL's Great GeekFest

DCDL's Great GeekFest returns for its 9th year to celebrate all things fans geek-out over! This unique comic-con-style event will be held at Delaware Library, featuring cosplay contests, gaming, trivia, Dungeons & Dragons, and more!

Friends volunteers are needed to host a table at the Friday, November 6 First Friday event from 6 - 9 p.m. in the heart of downtown Delaware. Set-up of tent, table & chairs begins at 5 p.m.

Volunteers will encouage participation in the Great GreekFest at the Delaware Library and promote checking-out downtown businesses with "Geeky" specials.

Have a favorite book, movie, video game, or TV show character? This is your chance to dress like characters in pop culture fan-dom. For example, the Harry Potter series, Tomb Raider or Star Wars.

Volunteers Needed for Liberty Book & Media Sale on 11/14

If you've never worked at Liberty, here are a few reasons to give it a try:

1-Donna, Steve & Bobbie are awesome book sale leaders! 

2-The sale is inside the Liberty Library so you don't have to worry about the weather.

3-The Delaware and Liberty book sales have separate inventories (i.e. our backs aren't interested in schlepping boxes of books between locations) so you can have an entirely different set of books and media to look through when you...

4-... shop before or after your shift and fill your bag with books for FREE because that's how we thank you, our loyal volunteers, for helping out!

We are actively looking for volunteers to participate in our Outreach Committee!

We support library services, programs, and staff by fundraising and encouraging gifts on behalf of the Library.   We do this by networking throughout the Delaware County region at various Delaware and Powell city and chamber events.

We are seeking library-loving “social butterflies” who like being active in their community, to attend some of these various Friends and community events throughout the year. We are specifically looking for individuals who would like to join and volunteer with our Outreach committee.

Example of events where we participate:

  • Delaware/Powell Chambers of Commerce:

    1. New Member Coffees

    2. Business Before & After Hours

    3. New Business Ribbon-Cuttings

    4. Lunch & Learn Business Series

    5. Women in Business/Men in Business

    6. Other special events

  • Main Street Delaware:

    1. First Fridays

    2. Merchants & Muffins

    3. Other special events

  • City of Powell:

    1. Lolli-Pops! Concerts

    2. Other special events

  • Delaware County District Library:

    1. Geekfest

    2. Medieval Faire

    3. Parades

    4. Other special events
